"Doing Business Globally" a Global Learning Project

My Business Communication community college students have been excited about this global learning adventure! Their learning outcomes and cross-cultural skills have grown globally each semester. While previous classes didn't search for global connections, these students see the value of learning about doing business with other cultures. For instances, Spring 2006 students chose to write about their own culture. Now, students pick a country/culture to research how to successfully (not offending another culture) do business. Last semester (Fall 2006), we had seven students agree to post their picture and PowerPoint on the Internet. While many tried to find global connections, only one was truly successful. She wrote about Ghana's culture, and had two, real-life contacts. One was via ePals e-mail and the other was a professor at a nearby university. I'm sure you'll find her PowerPoint about Ghana quite interesting. Other Fall 2006 students found information in the library and on the Internet. One interviewed a friend from India. Please look at their PowerPoint presentations to see what they found out about different cultures.

This semester (Spring 2007) we are again actively seeking through ePals and my faculty Web page "experts" who will share their wealth of knowledge about doing business with a specific culture. This semester we have 12 countries that have been chosen; two students have teamed to share about Germany. Dr. Sheila Offman Gersh of CultureQuest agreed to sponsor us and gave us some e-mail contacts last semester--and has promised to do the same again this semester.
